The Preflight

This flight was the first of three which would eventually get me to Berlin for a quick round-trip journey across the Atlantic. As Indianapolis Airport’s fourth largest carrier, I find that the United check-in counters rarely have any line for speaking with a customer service agent. It took less than three minutes for the agents to verify my passport and print my boarding passes for IND-IAD, IAD-MUC, and MUC-BER. While United does not have a United Club at the airport, there is a Priority Pass bar called The Fan Zone. Thanks to my Chase Ritz Carlton credit card Priority Pass membership, I was able to enjoy a Bloody Mary as well as grab two large bottles of water with my $28 credit.

Our E175 today, registration N727YX, was an eight-year-old aircraft delivered brand new to Republic Airways in October 2015. She was one of 163 E175s operated by Republic Airways and one of the 37 specifically operated for United Express.

Boarding began promptly at 2:01PM.

The Flight

All Republic Airway E175s feature a total of 12 Domestic First class seats arranged in a 1-2 configuration across four rows in the front of the aircraft. Today, I was seated in 3A.

Each seat has 37″ of pitch with a seat width of 20″. The recline was set at five inches.

Seat features included a small drink holder in the left armrest, a bi-fold tray table in the right armrest, and a single 110V outlet.

No pre-departure beverages were offered today which I find hit-or-miss with United. Boarding was quick at just twenty minutes. We pushed back at 2:21PM with take-off at 2:33PM. It was a lovely day in Indy which gave me sweeping views of IND.

Just 10 minutes after take-off the flight attendant came through the cabin with a snack basket. A beverage service was also provided. I went with a pre-mixed On the Rocks brand Old Fashioned served in the usual United blue plastic cup.

The rest of the flight was uneventful with the flight attendants largely keeping to themselves in the galley.

We touched down at 3:46PM and pulled into gate C22 seven minutes later.
